We believe people with (dis)Abilities .....

Black ball bullet. Should speak out for themselves.

Black ball bullet. Should be able to get real jobs for real pay.

You should be able to work wherever you want in the community. No matter what your disability, you have the right to work at any job you are able to do. You also have the right to choose a job that you enjoy. Call your local Arkansas Department of Human Services and they will direct you to a Rehabilitation Counselor.

Black ball bullet. Have the right to develop their own relationships.

You have the right as adults to build responsible relationships with whomever you want. You can have friends in the community. You can meet people at work, at the mall or at different meetings and organizations.

Black ball bullet. Have the right to choose their own support and services.

People First believes you should have control over the support and services you receive. You have the right to disagree with your staff and to have your own opinion. When you start deciding where and who you will receive your services from, you will gain more control over your life.

Black ball bullet. Have the right to live in the community how they choose.

You have the right to live as independently as you are able. Anything is possible! If you want to live in your own home, you have the right to do so. If you are unhappy with the place you are living, you have the right to speak up about where and how you want to live.

Black ball bullet. Should educate the public about the capabilities of people with disabilities.

People with disabilities should take responsibility for educating the community about the need for integration. You have to speak up to make sure all of your rights are being respected. Your neighbors and government officials need to get to know you as an individual so that they will learn that stereotypes are wrong.

Black ball bullet. Have the right to be educated about public and private transportation.

You have the right to have ACCESS to your community. The public transit office in your area should work to fit your service needs. If public transportation is not available in your area, speak to city officials about getting that changed.
